I love YouTube. I started watching it when it first came out in 2005. I was a teenager and I would spend my evenings on MSN and watching music videos and live performances on YouTube. It was a labyrinth of video clips of my favourite artists, interviews that were lost in the vault and an opportunity to fully marinate in my idols. Since then I have gone through phases of watching. At university, I enjoyed the celebrity themed make up of Sam and Nic Chapman (Pixiwoo) and in the last three years, my obsession has intensified. I deep dived in to the world of YouTube beauty, environmentally friendly lifestyle, minimalism, self-improvement, obviously dabbled in some yoga classes (although, I haven't actually found any teachers that I particularly gel with), used it to workshop specific yoga poses, watched a tonne of book reviews of books that I probably will never read, explored ASMR and searched for solutions to various household issues. It has been invaluable and very enjoyable and I want to join the weird, random and quirky party that is YouTube.
I filmed three videos before Christmas with the awesome Nim from Foldout Films and I was originally planning to sell them on Udemy. However, when it came to upload, I felt that they firstly didn't sit right with the Udemy platform but also that I wanted to offer some free content. I am passionate about sharing the mental and physical benefits of yoga. For me, yoga is not simply a physical movement of the body; it is a form of moving meditation, a tool for stress relief and a practice to help you manage your mind. I believe that everyone, regardless of economic status should be able to experience the benefits of yoga and therefore, I want to offer some free classes on YouTube. I know that this doesn't fully address the demographic that might not have access to a computer, space to practise or perhaps be aware of the powerful tool that yoga can be in your life. This is one of the ways that I plan to share my love of yoga beyond public classes and I plan to give back to the community in other ways. The point is that yoga is expensive and I want to provide a way for students to practise free of charge. Therefore, I am excited to announce that I have launched my own YouTube channel: Frosted Feather Yoga with Ailsa.
To be transparent, to be able to be generous with my time, I need to make enough money to live and if I can reach 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours watched then it means that I can start earning money from adverts on YouTube. I am not in the YouTube game to reach millions of subscribers but if I can reach monetisation then it means that I can afford to keep making videos. Any video watched by you and any subscription is a vote from you to help keep these videos free to all!
I have enough money and time put aside to film some videos over the next six months. I plan to upload at least once every two weeks and I will include a combination of different lengths of classes (1 hour, 45 minutes, 30 minutes etc.) and different styles including Vinyasa Flow Yoga and Restorative Yoga. If everything goes well, I plan to invest in my own camera after six months which will mean that I have greater freedom in terms of filming. I would love to extend the types of the videos beyond yoga classes to more informal, chatty videos covering subjects related to yoga and how we can incorporate the philosophical elements and teachings of yoga in to our modern lives. These are very much ideas at the moment so I look forward to creating our own little community over on YouTube and I value any input that you have.
